The Pittsburgh Steelers’ very active offseason may not be over quite yet with still a couple more holes to fill.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have had themselves yet another very active offseason under general manager Omar Khan. But with still a couple more holes to fill, Mark Kaboly of the Pat McAfee Show believes they’ve still got more moves up their sleeve.
Wide receiver seems to be at the forefront of most fans’ minds since the Steelers traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys in May. Kaboly thinks safety should be at the top of the list, though.
“I would think that that’s No. 1 on the list,” Kaboly said on Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan. “I’m not saying I’m not a Juan Thornhill believer, but they based their whole organization on having competition and where’s the competition at for a guy that nobody wanted last year who had a bad season for the Cleveland Browns?”
The Steelers did create a hole at safety when they dealt Minkah Fitzpatrick as part of their blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins, and Thornhill is far from a sure thing.
The 29-year-old is coming off a disappointing two-year stint with the Cleveland Browns, during which he didn’t record a single turnover.
However, that doesn’t mean he can’t have success in Pittsburgh. Thornhill has plenty of starting experience and two Super Bowl rings to back up his resume.
The Steelers haven’t been known to just hand out starting jobs, but Kaboly believes the depth behind Thornhill could be even more worrisome.
“What if somebody gets hurt? You going with Miles Killebrew? I mean what do you have behind that?” Kaboly said. “I think that’s all set up as a veteran guy that they would like to get, but that could be done in September when there might be somebody come free as well. That’s why I think there’s something else on the agenda.”
Only time will tell what Pittsburgh decides to do, but given how aggressive Khan has been to give the team the best chance to contend for a Super Bowl, it’s safe to assume he’s not done quite yet.
