The Washington Commanders have had an interesting offseason, firing both coordinators, including OC Kliff Kingsbury, and promoting David Blough to the same role. The Commanders are looking to bounce back after a tough 2025 season that saw them miss the playoffs altogether on the heels of the previous year’s run to the NFC Championship Game.
One person with a glowing review of Blough’s work so far is NFL insider Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, who recently sang the new offensive coordinator’s praises.
“The new offensive coordinator, David Blough, has been a shot of energy. This place is a little more laid back. Blough is ‘go, go, go, go, go,’ and he still, in his mind, is kind of in that age bracket of being a player, not too far removed from that, so you see that energy coming across everybody,” he said, per Monumental Sports Network on X, formerly Twitter.
Indeed, Blough is just 30 years old, so it makes sense that he might be able to build a better rapport than some other coaching candidates, not that Kingsbury was particularly old.
Many were surprised when the Commanders decided to move off Kingsbury, considering that he was widely credited with developing the offensive scheme that helped Jayden Daniels put together one of the best rookie seasons in recent NFL history two years ago. However, clearly, head coach Dan Quinn and the team’s front office felt that a change was needed in order to help Washington unlock the best version of itself.
In any case, the Commanders are slated to kick off their 2026 season with a tough divisional road game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
