With a mere hours to go before the NFL trade deadline, insider Mike Giardi reported on Tuesday that the Tennessee Titans may be “unwilling” to make any potential deals with the New England Patriots.
The Boston Sports Journal writer said that based on what he was hearing, the Titans (presumably a seller ahead of the deadline) may have that mindset due to “how things ended” with their former head coach Mike Vrabel, who is now in his first season with the Patriots.
“I was also told there has been some conversation league-wide that Tennessee might be unwilling to make deals with New England because the owner, Amy Adams Strunk, continues to think too much about how things ended with Vrabel and is not inclined to help his new team,” Giardi wrote. “We’ll find out soon enough with the likes of edge Arden Key, RB Tony Pollard, and even WR Calvin Ridley available.”
Even though New England enters Week 10 tied atop the NFL standings at 7-2, there are still ways that the Patriots could improve their roster.
The group could use an edge rusher and they’ve been linked to Arden Key this fall.
Starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson, meanwhile, missed Week 9 due to a toe injury and New England could use some depth at the position.
Vrabel spent six seasons as Tennessee’s head coach, guiding the team to the playoffs three times and earning Coach of the Year honors following the 2021 campaign.
The former Patriots linebacker was fired following the 2023 season after the Titans finished 6-11.
