We have our first San Francisco 49ers injury report of the season. The following players are not practicing on Wednesday:
DE Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)
WR Jordan Watkins (ankle)
These players will be limited:
WR Jauan Jennings (calf)
LG Dominick Puni (knee)
RB Jordan James (finger)
Everybody else on the active roster will be a full participant.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan expects Jennings to play this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks:
“He looked good on Monday, getting back into it. Having all that time off, we gotta ease him in and stuff. We’ll see how the week goes; that’s why he’ll be limited today. He’s healthy enough to play football. Hopefully, that continues.”
Shanahan confirmed that Jennings had a final MRI and is good to go. He also mentioned that there were no setbacks for the players who did not practice, specifically Gross-Matos.
Back to Jennings. Shanahan said there has been no contract resolution, but he wants to keep Jauan and Colton McKivitz for the long term. He also acknowledged the business side of things. Jennings and McKivitz are headed into contract years: “It’s something that I know both sides would love to get worked out. I just don’t know if we can.”
The 49ers officially promoted wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the active roster. Shanahan said MVS and Russell Gage have “a real good shot” of being active in Week 1. He added that there were multiple reasons for the roster swap, but wanted to ensure both wideouts were on the team come Sunday.
