Before the season started, few expected the Indianapolis Colts to be surefire playoff contenders. Heck, we didn’t even know whether it would be Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson as the Colts’ starting quarterback.

Yet, seven weeks into the season, not only are the Colts on top of the AFC South with a 6-1 record, but they’re also in position to have the top seed in the conference. Now, the Colts are in a position to attract more outside talent to their roster, simply thanks to their early-season success.

On Tuesday, the Colts even put two-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher Shaquil Barrett through a workout.

Barrett, a two-time Super Bowl winner, seems to have an interest in joining yet another championship contender. However, no deal was consummated, at least not yet. The Colts also worked out undrafted defensive end Seth Coleman, who was signed to the team’s practice squad.

The 32-year-old entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015, and he spent four seasons with the Denver Broncos before spending another six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Barrett also signed with the Miami Dolphins last season, but he retired in July before wanting to return to the field in November. Barrett was eventually released, where he quickly returned to Tampa Bay for the final game of the season, plus their playoff loss.

The Colts may have also simply wanted to get a better feel for the type of shape Barrett is in after being out of football this season. Either way, they opted to go in a different direction.
