Indianapolis Colts to Express Interest in Trade for All-Pro Defender

Nearly everything has gone right for the Indianapolis Colts on their way to a 5-1 start this season. Daniel Jones looks like a Pro Bowl quarterback. Shane Steichen’s offense ranks first in scoring.

Even the Colts’ defense, which ranked 24th in points allowed under defensive coordinator Gus Bradley in 2024, is drastically improved. New defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is a big reason why, as the Colts’ defense now ranks fourth in points allowed.

Yet, now that the Colts are firmly in the playoff picture, general manager Chris Ballard could be ready to capitalize by adding another All-Pro defender into the mix.

According to Sportskeeda’s Tony Pauline, the Colts are a team that’s expected to have interest in trading for Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson. Yet, there’s still no guarantee the Bengals will trade their best defender.

Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks last season, and it came with Anarumo calling the shots on defense in Cincinnati. Presumably, he’d be a great fit with the Colts too.

Yet, the Bengals may want to hold off on trade discussions until they’re firmly out of the playoff picture. After trading for Joe Flacco last week, Cincinnati still believes they have a chance. Perhaps that changes once the NFL trade deadline arrives on the Tuesday after Week 9.
