No team can definitively say they’ve been better than the Indianapolis Colts this season. Well, maybe the Los Angeles Rams, as they’re the only team that’s beaten the Colts this year.
When it comes to scoring points, no team has been better than the Colts, who are averaging 33.8 points per game this season. The Colts have still been stout defensively, but if we’re getting picky, there’s more room for growth on a unit that respectably ranks sixth in points allowed.
Yet, with the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline bearing down upon Indianapolis, it’s possible they’ll capitalize on their strong start with an impactful addition.
Recently, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested that the Colts would be an ideal fit for Bengals All-Pro pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson, who played under defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo for Hendrickson’s entire tenure in Cincinnati.
Hendrickson led the NFL with 17.5 sacks last season. He’s not quite on the same pace this year, but the 30-year-old has still recorded four sacks, and it just takes one big performance to put him back on track.
Either way, he can help a Colts team that looks poised for a deep playoff run. Playing on an expiring contract, Cincinnati could see the appeal in dealing Hendrickson for 2026 draft capital now rather than waiting and seeing what happens in the offseason.
The Bengals previously failed to reach a long-term extension with Hendrickson, and they likely have a good feel for where negotiations could go if they discuss a continued partnership later on. Thus, if they feel like Hendrickson is as good as gone, why not kickstart the process?
