The Indianapolis Colts have some extra reps available at their mandatory minicamp with Anthony Richardson sitting out due to shoulder soreness. That sets free agent signee Daniel Jones up for immediate success and a leg up in the starting quarterback competition.
Yet, as mentioned, the Colts have extra reps available due to Richardson’s absence, and some of them will be going to camp invite Desmond Ridder.
The former third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons is still just 25 years old. Yet, now he’s already seeking his third team since arriving as the 74th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Ridder spent just two years with the team that drafted him before the Falcons traded him to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for Rondale Moore. Yet, after Ridder lost the backup quarterback battle to Clayton Tune, a fifth-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft, the Falcons cut Ridder loose, and he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2024 season.
Though Ridder did make six appearances with the Raiders, he only made one start. That brings him to 18 starts in his three-year career thus far. Ridder has tallied 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. But before he can add to those totals, he’ll have to earn a roster spot.
For now, Ridder is just hoping to show enough to stick around on a Colts depth chart that also features Jones, Richardson, sixth-round rookie Riley Leonard, and former undrafted free agent Jason Bean.
