In his first round, the respected draft analyst from The Athletic picks Ohio State’s Josh Simmons for Kansas City.

On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler released a seven-round mock draft for 2025, in which he sent a left tackle to the Kansas City Chiefs with the 31st pick of the first round: Ohio State’s Josh Simmons.

31. Kansas City Chiefs: T Josh Simmons, Ohio State

This played out perfectly for the Chiefs. Simmons has the talent to be in the OT1 conversation in this draft class, but a midseason knee injury and a “so-so” interview process, as one scout described it, has put a discount sticker on his report.

In Brugler’s scenario, Simmons is the last prospect still available from the four players who have accounted for 44% (55) of the mock drafts we’ve tracked. Simmons has now been taken with the 31st pick in 19% of these 124 projections — significantly more than Oregon tackle Josh Conerly Jr. (12%), Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon (7%) or Mississippi defensive tackle Walter Nolen (6%). The remaining 69 mocks are split between 30 prospects.

After that, here’s how Brugler saw the draft falling for the Chiefs:

    1. (63) WR Tre Harris, Ole Miss
    1. (66) DT Alfred Collins, Texas
    1. (95) RB Cam Skattebo, Arizona State
    1. (133) G Bryce Cabeldue, Kansas
    1. (226) T Caleb Etienne, BYU
    1. (251) TE Luke Lachey, Iowa
    1. (257) EDGE Ethan Downs, Oklahoma
