PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Cole Holcomb will not suit up for the second straight week while dealing with an undisclosed illness, the team announced on Friday.
Holcomb first missed practice on Thursday, Oct. 30, while dealing with the illness, one that apparently also impacted Steelers safety Chuck Clark. Both Holcomb and Clark were ruled out of the team’s Week 10 game against the Indianapolis Colts.
On Tuesday, head coach Mike Tomlin said that he expected Clark to return this week, while Holcomb was going to try to work his way back. When asked about having an illness run through the team, Tomlin said this was the worst situation he could remember since the COVID-19 pandemic, but did not divulge the nature of the illness.
Clark was a full participant in practice all week and is set to return against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 10, but Holcomb remains sidelined. He did not practice all week and has been ruled out for the second straight game.
Malik Harrison will once again replace Holcomb as the team’s No. 3 inside linebacker behind Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson, with rookie Carson Bruener providing additional depth.
