No one wants to see Uno go, but there’s no denying Cincinnati’s front office has messed up royally.
The Cincinnati Bengals’ front office has been pretty good at losing great players, especially in recent years. And they may have another debacle to add to the collection.
There is now a realistic chance that the Bengals’ front office won’t find a way to keep Ja’Marr Chase in town long-term, and naturally, other NFL executives are already salivating at the idea of acquiring the superstar receiver.
Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame spoke with a “half-dozen front-office personnel and general managers,” who told him that trading away Chase would bring back a haul at least as good as what the Kansas City Chiefs got for Tyreek Hill in 2022.
As a reminder, here’s what the Chiefs got from the Miami Dolphins in that trade: A first-rounder, second-rounder, and a fourth-rounder in 2022, as well as a fourth-rounder and sixth-rounder in 2023.
And a number of execs think Chase could bring back more. Why?
“[Chase is] a better overall player, and I would guess less baggage and younger at the time of the trade,” said one prominent NFC talent evaluator.
Of course, with the way the Bengals have drafted in recent years (and failed to replace Jessie Bates), fans probably aren’t too excited by the prospect of getting a boatload of picks for Chase.
In the meantime, Chase and Joe Burrow will try to lift their team over the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. We preview that game below:
