Ian Rapoport: Packers are ‘the kind of team’ to trade for Micah Parsons

While on The Pat McAfee Show, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shed some light on where things stand with Dallas Cowboys All-Pro pass-rusher Micah Parsons. After bringing up internet insider Rickey Scoop’s rumor that the Green Bay Packers had made a trade offer for Parsons, Rapoport stated that it would take Khalil Mack-type compensation to get Parsons from Dallas.

Back in 2018, Mack was traded from the Oakland Raiders to the Chicago Bears for two first-round picks, but the Bears made up some of that value by moving up a round in the 2020 draft (3rd to 2nd) and turning a 2019 6th-round pick into a conditional 2020 5th-round pick. In total, that boils down to a shade under two first-round selections in net value.

Rapoport did add, though, “I don’t believe the Cowboys have received any official offers,” explaining that offers are only official when teams know both sides will say yes. You’ve got to love plausible deniability. Remember, earlier this offseason, people tried to convince you that DK Metcalf was absolutely not going to be traded from the Seattle Seahawks…until the moment it was official.

Per Rapoport, the Packers do make sense as a landing spot. He said, “They have money to spend, and they are really good. That’s the kind of team that I would say, if Micah was going to be traded, that he’d be going to.” He also mentioned that Green Bay has handed out all of the long-term extensions that teams expect them to sign this year, besides linebacker Quay Walker. That’s not great news for left tackle Rasheed Walker or receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, who are all on expiring deals.

Beyond the original rumor tying the Packers into trade conversations with Parsons, there are other links with Parsons and the team — notably starting quarterback Jordan Love. Not only do Love and Parsons have the same agent, David Mulugheta of Athletes First, but they’ve also taken a trip to Dubai together, and Love has been a guest on Parsons’ podcast. It’s safe to say that they are familiar faces.

Mulugheta also represents safety Xavier McKinney, linebacker Isaiah Simmons, quarterback Malik Willis and defensive end Kingsley Enagbare on the Packers’ roster.
