Cunningham is one of six finalists that will interview in person with the Titans.

When a team struggles like the Chicago Bears did in 2024, usually their staff isn’t hit up for potential promotions with other franchises. But when you’re Chicago Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham, you’ve been on the radar as a possible general manager for many teams for quite a few years.

Despite the Bears' struggles, Cunningham may get a major career opportunity.

Last week, Cunningham interviewed (virtually) for the Tennessee Titans open general manager position. Today, the Titans named their six finalists for their next GM.

With six finalists, it certainly isn’t a slam dunk that Cunningham will get this job but the Titans have been interested in his potential services before so that may give him a leg up on the competition.

The Titans are moving quickly on their opening and will want to have their new man in place as quickly as possible.

Also of note, if Cunningham is hired by the Titans, the Bears would qualify for the NFL’s initiative on minority hires, and due to Cunningham being hired to an elevated position in Tennessee, the Bears would receive an additional third-round pick in both the 2025 and 2026 NFL Drafts.
