Here’s how I see the 2025 season going for the Saints.
The New Orleans Saints enter the 2025 season with lowered expectations, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. They have a new head coach and staff, Derek Carr retired, and had what I thought was a very solid draft.
Internally, their hopes are that they can this year’s Washington Commanders. Obviously, that’s pretty optimistic, especially when the national media has very low expectations for them, but they do have a chance to surprise some teams.
So, let’s take a look at my record prediction for the Saints this season:
The Arizona Cardinals come to town for the season opener, and I have the Saints losing their first game of the Kellen Moore era. I think it’s definitely a winnable game and I know the Saints have been very good in openers recently, but I think it’ll take time for Kellen Moore and Brandon Staley’s systems to get rolling, so I’m saying the Saints start with a loss.
I have the Saints dropping their Week 2 game to the 49ers as well. San Fran isn’t the same team that went to the Super Bowl two years ago, but their roster is still levels above the Saints’, and I just don’t see Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler keeping up with Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey and the rest of their offense.
I have the Saints losing their third straight game to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. Sam Darnold, Kenneth Walker, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp form a really solid offense, and Seattle is an incredibly tough place to play.
Josh Allen. Next.
The first win of the Kellen Moore era comes in Week 5 in the Superdome when the Saints take down the New York Giants. I don’t think the Russell Wilson experiment will last too long in New York, and the Saints have to get a win at some point, so why not now? The only thing that could wreck this is if the Saints’ OL is worse than anticipated and the Giants DL, which is very, very good, dominates.
Another winnable home game for the Saints in week six turns into Moore’s second win as a head coach. The New England Patriots have a bright future with Mike Vrabel and Drake Maye, but I think they’re still a couple seasons away from getting back to being a playoff contender.
I’m really high on Chicago Bears this year. Ben Johnson takes over, Caleb Williams at quarterback, a trio of really good receivers and a rookie tight end who will instantly be a top 10 player at his position. If their offensive line is just average, this offense will be really good.
