After the Los Angeles Rams choked away their double-digit lead to the Philadelphia Eagles, I needed to lay down, after some rest, and grasping with reality, I had to see what Sean McVay had to say after the brutal defeat, and he delivered a line for the ages, “These are the chances to be able to lean in and see what you’re really about.” said the head coach while reflecting on the hard loss, and knowing there is still the entire season ahead.
The Rams fell to 2-1 after Sunday’s game, and the fanbase may be disgusted, but McVay seems as focused as ever as he expects his team and staff to respond the right way, and he hopes to confirm that his team is as resilient as he thinks it is starting against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4.
The head coach is welcoming the opportunity to get back on track.
Said McVay:
“Here’s when we learn about ourselves. When you’re 2-0, you don’t learn about anybody, but when you do have a loss like this…I wanna see what we’re about and I know what we’re about, I know we’re gonna respond. Can’t le the Eagle beat us twice, we got a great challenge coming in here next week. We’ll look at this film, we’ll correct it, we’ll see where there’s opportunities for us to be able to, you know, slam the door shut, not give them any sort of life. They made the plays, and we didn’t ultimately get it done and that’s just the reality of it.”
The result is the result, and the Rams lost after having so many chances to put the Eagles away. For the team, it’s frustrating, it’s disappointing, and when you lead by double-digits in the NFL, you should typically win the game.
When you don’t put the game away, and lose as the Rams did, there will be questions about your team’s ability to close out games and perform with a lead overall.
For now, McVay seems as confident and reassured as ever in the belief of his team, and that should be reassuring for the franchise, now the next step is to get back in the win column and go from there.
