While Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni took the high road about AJ Brown, he’s also trying to wash off the stink of last year’s offensive coordinator debacle. And the Eagles’ star players revealed just how unbearable Sirianni can be.
Not that much, according to The Athletic.
“(People) go, ‘How unbearable is your coach?’ ” tackle Jordan Mailata said. “He’s actually not that unbearable. A lot of people think it’s fake. And that’s one that irks me. Dude, he’s like this in practice. He’s like this all the time. So, it’s very consistent. And I can’t fault him for that.”
Still, Saquon Barkley added,
“He’s Philly to a T. The things I disliked about Philly before I came here, he was that to a T.”
He’s high energy in so many ways.
“Sirianni, 45, a hypercompetitive hothead who has conspicuously engaged with players (in Eagles and opposing jerseys), coaches (Eagles and opposing), fans (same), and officials, wants to be a mature person who can rein in his emotions, but not at the expense of surrendering his essence,” Michael Silver wrote. “In his heart, he would rather be called unhinged than fake, and he’d happily trade the reproach of millions for the certainty that his players understand how much he cares.”
The Eagles have certainly soared under Sirianni. They went 9-8 in his first season but followed up with marks of 14-3, 11-6, 14-3, and 11-6. And, of course, they reached the Super Bowl in 2022 before winning it in 2024.
His career record is 59-26 in the regular season. And Sirianni is 6-4 in the playoffs.
“He doesn’t get enough credit at all, in my opinion,” Barkley said. “I don’t get why he doesn’t. Like, what he’s doing, in real time, is legendary.
“If we’re being honest, no one talks about it enough. Like, we love to talk about me rushing for 2,000 yards, we love to talk about Jalen (Hurts), we love to talk about the Eagles. But he’s like the last one to get brought up, and it doesn’t really make sense.”
