The Baltimore Ravens fell way short of expectations last season, missing the playoffs after a year riddled with injury. However, their year finished up with a massive sliding doors moment.
In Week 18 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tyler Loop had a kick to send the Ravens to the playoffs. Instead, he missed, and the Steelers went to the postseason as AFC North champions.
That missed kick resulted in a number of things, beyond just the end of the Ravens’ Super Bowl hopes. Head coach John Harbaugh was fired at the end of the season, in large part because of the missed postseason result.
Loop was understandably crushed after the miss, but now he is moving on. At mandatory minicamp on Wednesday, the second-year kicker talked about moving on from the miss that will haunt him throughout his career, via Jamison Henley of ESPN.

“The biggest thing I did was acknowledge and accept it,” Loop said. “I took a day or two. Moving on from the kick itself was pretty easy. You’ve got to be ready for next kick. I know you’ve gotta be able to put it behind you. … I still feel confident in my abilities.”
Loop also said that other kickers reached out to him after the miss and the reaction that followed in comment sections everywhere.
While that one kick overshadows things, Loop still had a strong rookie season with the Ravens. He made 30-of-34 kicks during the season and 44-of-46 extra points. Three of his four misses came from beyond 50 yards, with the only miss coming from inside of that being the final swing of the leg in 2025.
New head coach Jesse Minter has said that the Ravens are considering bringing in some competition at kicker for Loop, but he also clarified that he is considering that at a number of other positions as well.
It will be interesting to watch Loop at the start of the season to see if he really has moved on from that kick mentally. If he has, the position should still be a strength for Baltimore.
