Patriots fans have a better idea of who will be available when New England picks at No. 4 in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Multiple reports indicated that the Tennessee Titans would select Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick. It’s up in the air regarding what the Cleveland Browns do at No. 2, and their pick would dictate the New York Giants’ selection at No. 3.
When discussing the Patriots’ reported signing of Stefon Diggs, ESPN’s Matt Miller noted the “dream scenario” for Mike Vrabel if Abdul Carter slid down the draft to No. 4. Adam Schefter shook his head at the suggestion.
“Yeah, it’s not gonna happen. Adbul Carter’s gonna go before the New England Patriots pick at four,” Schefter said on “NFL Live” on Wednesday. “It would be an upset right now if Abdul Carter made his way to No. 4. I would handicap Abdul Carter right now as the likely pick at No. 2 today. We reserve the right to change our mind. A lot of things change, but the way this is shaking out to me, it looks like he’s tracking to be a Brown, and let’s see how it plays out.”
That tracked with how the top NFL draft analysts see the board going in their post-free agency mock drafts. The big question will be what the Giants do with the third overall pick.
They reportedly signed Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson, but New York reporters suggested that doesn’t mean the franchise would shy away from a quarterback in the first round. It’s unknown what the Giants think about Shedeur Sanders, the presumed second-best signal-caller in the draft class. However, if they like what they see from the Colorado product, that sets up the Patriots to select Travis Hunter to continue to upgrade the offense and help out Drake Maye.
While it might have seemed like a certainty before Wednesday, it’s always important to get some sort of confirmation about the top picks in the 2025 draft, as it would allow New England to make the necessary moves to retool a bottom-barrel roster.
