Field Gulls
The Seattle Seahawks (13-3) have already tied for the most wins in a season in franchise history. With the benefit of a 17th game their 2005 and 2013 predecessors did not have, they can break that mark with a famous 14th win. All that stands between this year’s Seahawks and the NFC West championship plus the No. 1 seed in the NFC are the San Francisco 49ers (12-4), who handed Seattle a Week 1 loss at Lumen Field.
It’s perhaps fitting that this grueling NFC West race is coming down to the last day. Neither the Seahawks nor 49ers have lost since their respective November defeats against the Los Angeles Rams, but Seattle avenging that Rams defeat in Week 16 opened the door for the three-horse chase to become two. If Seattle wins or ties, the division championship is wrapped up for Mike Macdonald in his second season. A 49ers win would mean a return to the top after a last place finish in 2024.
Seattle’s elite defense against San Francisco’s elite offense. The brilliance of Kyle Shanahan against the wizardry of Mike Macdonald. Sam Darnold once again is faced with needing to win on the road to secure the top seed. Last year didn’t go too well with the Minnesota Vikings; what’s the outcome this season?
