Following the news that Tennessee Titans defensive star Jeffery Simmons was getting a lucrative new deal, one NFL insider believes that means good news around the league. Specifically, it could mean great news for Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Jalen Carter.
“Carter has become one of the most dominant defensive players in the NFL, after only three seasons. By making it to multiple Pro Bowls, his fifth-year option for 2027 has spiked to $27.127 million. His franchise tag, as of 2028, will be at least $32.554 million,” Mike Florio reported for Pro Football Talk.
Florio believes that Carter should be smiling, because the Simmons deal will mean even more money for the Eagles star. Simmons agreed to a three-year extension in Tennessee for $105.8 million.
“Friday’s new deal for Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons pushed the top of the market at the position from $31.75 million per year to $35.2 million,” Florio added.
Carter had been holding back in activities at the Eagles’ mandatory minicamp. He is coming off surgery on both of his shoulders.
“Carter wisely isn’t doing anything that may put himself at risk until he gets paid. Especially since he’s due to be paid only $3.723 million in 2026,” Florio added.
During the 2025 NFL regular season, Carter posted 33 total tackles and three sacks. He has played for Philadelphia since the 2023 season. While his sack numbers were down a bit this past season, Carter remained a steady presence on the team’s defensive line.
Carter was drafted ninth overall by Philadelphia in the 2023 NFL Draft. He played his college football at Georgia.
