Stefon Diggs has energized the New England Patriots’ offense and injected the locker room with a fiery personality, but the wide receiver acknowledged that his intensity can be a double-edged sword.
CLNS Media’s Taylor Kyles asked Diggs in an interview released Friday how he thinks he can improve. The 31-year-old went away from the on-field action to consider his mentality.
“My attitude,” Diggs said. “I have a way of getting mad at everything, and I want everything to be perfect.”
A high standard can often help an athlete reach elevated heights, but Diggs thinks he can also be too harsh a self-critic.
“I think it’s a competitive edge as well because you’re always chasing to be better, and I always want better,” Diggs added. “So, for me, my attitude towards myself. I always want excellence. Sometimes, I don’t attach myself to the results, but I always want more.”
Diggs believes that ethos stems from his father not offering compliments or positive affirmation when he was growing up.
“I probably should work on that,” Diggs said.
Back from a torn ACL, Diggs leads the Patriots with 45 catches and 508 receiving yards in his 11th NFL season. The veteran also offered some words of wisdom to rookies.
“Let your actions speak louder than words,” he advised. “Commit to the process. Don’t attach to the results because the results will vary, and trust in yourself. You got here from believing in yourself and the time that you put in, so don’t stop believing in yourself.”
