Fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers hoping that Tee Higgins would don the Black and Gold for the 2025 season and beyond were devastated when the Cincinnati Bengals franchise-tagged their wide receiver for the second season in a row.
Higgins would have been, without a doubt, the top free-agent receiver in the 2025 offseason and a surefire A+ pickup for the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, now that the Bengals have all but assured Higgins will play for any team other than the Pittsburgh Steelers, where will the Steel City look for the future of their WR room?
One idea would be to break the Steelers norm and draft a first-round wide receiver. There have been critics of this growing trend and calls for the Pittsburgh Steelers to draft a receiver with the 21st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, as the team has proven itself adept at selecting great, talented WRs in Round 2 and beyond.
However, without Higgins in 2025, the Steelers cannot afford to miss on a wide receiver this year. Now that free agency will do them no favors, Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka or Missouri’s Luther Burden III may be the best choice with their first-round draft pick.
