Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s how good quarterback Mason Rudolph could be, now that he’s been united with Arthur Smith with the Steelers.

Smith had has success turning around the careers of other former starters like Ryan Tannehill and Justin Fields, and we’ve seen other quarterbacks of Rudolph’s age fix things at the NFL level recently, including Geno Smith and Sam Darnold.

But, of course, Darnold, Fields and Tannehill were first-round picks and Smith a second-rounder. Rudolph may or may not have the talent level required to support that kind of turnaround. When Smith worked with lesser quarterbacks in Atlanta like Marcus Mariota, Taylor Heinicke and Desmond Ridder, it didn’t necessarily go as well.

Does Rudolph — and do the Steelers — have what it takes to make that kind of career resurrection? Alan breaks it down.
