Jakobi Meyers is no stranger to making an impact at Gillette Stadium. Doing it as a visitor, as he did Sunday for the Las Vegas Raiders, was a first.
Meyers played in Foxboro for the first time since joining the Raiders ahead of the 2023 season in Sunday’s opener, a 20-13 comeback win for the Raiders. Though he requested a trade over the preseason, Meyers is now in Year 3 in Vegas after signing there in 2023.
The 28-year-old finished with a game-high eight receptions, good for 97 yards.
“It was great, honestly,” Meyers said after the game of his return to Gillette, via a team-provided transcript. “Like, my family was here and I know they got the chance to enjoy the game. My boys came back and it is like bringing your friends home almost, you know what I mean? Like, it was cool to just bring them here and see where I started out and now we are going to go back to Vegas and get ready for the next week.”
Meyers broke into the NFL in 2019, Tom Brady’s final year with the Patriots, becoming one of the rare few receivers the future Hall of Fame trusted as a rookie. He was a reliable wideout for years, finishing his run in New England with 235 receptions for 2758 yards and eight touchdowns.
“Once I am on the field, I am on the field, so you are going to get what you get every single time,” Meyers said when asked about playing well in his return. “Hopefully, you know, but outside of that, like just being in the hotel, and being around the city, that was cool to just think about everything that I’ve been through and getting to this point. So, I would say that.”
