The New England Patriots, despite three straight playoff absences, made a number of hires so far this offseason to benefit the future of the team.
Mike Vrabel sets the tone at head coach. The former New England linebacker showed he could do the job with the Tennessee Titans and now returns to raise the standard of his old team. The current roster needs loads of work, but Vrabel makes the future brighter with quarterback Drake Maye.
FS1’s Colin Cowherd sees that vision and raved over the Patriots hire as potentially the best of the entire coaching cycle.
“I think Mike Vrabel is an A,” Cowherd shared on “The Herd” Tuesday. “This to me was the best coach available on the market. He’s got a winning record. He’s a culture changer. Familiarity with the team.”
The only other coach to earn an A from Cowherd was Pete Carroll joining the Las Vegas Raiders and he already has a ring from Super Bowl XLVIII. Cowherd pushed Vrabel ahead of other candidates with his prior success and ability to institute his culture, now with the Patriots.
“Those guys don’t really fail,” Cowherd added. “They may not win a trophy, but they don’t fail. I thought this was a solid A hire.”
