Houston Texans star player Jaylen Reed had the scare of his life earlier this month. Just a few days into the new year, he became a victim of a crime.

The Houston Texans’ rookie was carjacked at gunpoint at his home, and two suspects are still on the run, per KHOU. Court documents show that the sixth-round pick was approached outside his home by three men armed with rifles. They wasted no time demanding that Reed give them everything in his house.

Eventually, they settled for just stealing his SUV and leaving the scene. Police located the SUV, and a pursuit kicked off. When the chase ended in a crash, one man was in the vehicle. Jaylen Reed was luckily unharmed in the robbery.

When you have money and fame, you will always be a target for people who lack both. Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson found that out last year when he was robbed. Thompson suffered minor injuries when he was robbed and jumped in Dublin ahead of their Week 4 clash against the Minnesota Vikings.

Shedeur Sanders made his NFL debut in Week 11, and his home was being broken into at the same time. He became another example of prominent athletes having their homes broken into during NFL games.

More On Jaylen Reed being Robbed

Texans rookie safety Jaylen Reed was carjacked at gunpoint at his home by three men. It happened at Reed’s home on Jan. 4. 20-year-old Montreal Dwayne Frye was the only man who was captured after a police chase.

Frye faces two felony charges, and he’s being held on a $500,000 bond. He and the other suspects apparently targeted Reed because he is a “known public figure in the community.” Frye was placed on a $500,000 bond. His next court date is on Feb. 10.

Reed is in his first season with the Texans after being drafted in the sixth round of the NFL draft from Penn State. He just returned from injury to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild-card round.

Jaylen Reed has played in four regular-season games and in Monday’s Wild Card game. He has a total of 17 tackles and a fumble recovery.
