The Houston Texans’ rebuilt wide receiver room has undergone yet another change, with John Metchie III heading to the City of Brotherly Love.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Texans have traded John Metchie III and a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles. In return, Houston receives tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

This is the second trade in as many weeks for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, who sent defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for cornerback Jakorian Bennett on Aug. 4.
Houston drafted John Metchie in the second round (44th overall) in 2022 following a superb career at Alabama. Metchie was sidelined for his entire rookie year after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, but he recovered and returned to the field in 2023.
For his career, Metchie has 40 receptions for 412 yards and one touchdown.
Metchie was hardly used by the Texans over his first two seasons, due largely to their crowded WR room (Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Stefon Diggs). But the former second-round pick gets a fresh start on the star-studded Eagles, who are more than capable of unlocking Metchie’s potential.
