After a busy offseason, the Houston Texans had two well-known bruising running backs on the roster in Joe Mixon and Nick Chubb. Except, Mixon hasn’t played a single snap all season after trying to overcome a mysterious foot injury that occurred in the offseason.
Meanwhile, Chubb, a 29-year-old four-time Pro Bowler who’s overcome several serious injuries in his past, hasn’t topped 61 rushing yards in any game this season. Chubb is up to 265 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 4.2 yards per carry, but Houston’s offense has scored just three rushing touchdowns this season.
The Texans’ scoring attack has struggled overall this season, and a lack of a consistent rushing offense is certainly part of the reason why. Yet, help could be on the way ahead of the Nov. 4 NFL trade deadline.
Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler ranked the best players who could be available at the trade deadline, and the Texans were named as a top fit for New York Jets RB Breece Hall.
If available, Hall would instantly electrify the Texans’ rushing offense. Since Mixon nor Chubb are likely long-term fits in Houston, taking a chance on a 24-year-old player who recorded 1,585 yards from scrimmage in 2023 could make a lot of sense for a Chargers team still hoping for a chance at the playoffs this season.
Hall has recorded 448 rushing yards at a 4.5 YPC clip this season. He’s also been extremely effective as a pass-catcher, racking up 164 more yards through the air. That type of three-down threat would certainly be welcome in LA.
