It had the makings of a lost game in a lost season. The Houston Texans trailed the Jacksonville Jaguars 17-0 in the first quarter and it seemed like all was lost. Slowly but surely the team clawed their way back into the game with a smothering defense and suddenly effective passing and running game. Pound for pound, it was the most exciting game of the 2025 season to date as many of the faithful at NRG Stadium had given up. Mills scored the go ahead touchdown with 31 seconds left to make the score 30-29. They added a pick six to beat the Jaguars 36-29.

It’s hard to decide who to give a game ball to. Daniele Hunter had four sacks on the afternoon for what is obviously a career day for him. Davis Mills overcame an early interception to add two touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown late. We usually go towards the superlative in times like these, but this looks like the biggest win of DeMeco Ryans’ tenure as the Texans coach.

It won’t necessarily make the difference between going to the playoffs and not. The Texans still need to finish the season 6-2 in order to get to the magic ten win plateau. However, a loss would have ended the season. A loss would have started the finger pointing. A loss would have forced some players and coaches to start dusting off their resume. Now, they can possibly go to Tennessee and even up their record at 5-5.

The Most Interesting Defense in the world stepped up big in the fourth quarter to limit the Jaguars to less than ten yards of total offense. That enabled them to make three improbable drives as the Texans suddenly figured out how to score in the red zone. There are obviously some things to feel bad about and we will point those things out later this week, but it’s time to break open the bubbly and celebrate the biggest come from behind win in DeMeco Ryans’ tenure as the head coach.
