Houston Texans at Minnesota Vikings Preseason: First Half Discussion
Daily Norseman Daily Norseman

It’s been eight long months since we got to see the Minnesota Vikings take the field for a football game. Even though this one doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, it is the first step the purple will take in their 2025 season, as they host the Houston Texans at U.S. Bank Stadium in the first of their three preseason games for this year.

Let’s pass along all of the information you need to know.

Date and Time: Saturday, 9 August 2025, 3:00 PM Central

Location: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota

Television Coverage: KMSP-9 in the Twin Cities, local affiliates in several cities, NFL Network around the country

Radio Coverage: Vikings Radio Network affiliates, SiriusXM Channel 88, SiriusXM App Channel 820

Line: Vikings -3, over/under 38.5

Chris’ Prediction: Chris is predicting that Chris doesn’t do predictions for preseason games

Three Keys

1) No injuries – There is, literally, nothing more important than this when it comes to preseason games. This will be the #1 key next week and the week after, too.

2) New quarterback, eh? – Almost a year to the day that he made his preseason debut last year, young J.J. McCarthy will lead the Vikings onto the field again for this year’s preseason opener. I’m not sure how much we can learn from McCarthy being out there for a few drives without the majority of the starters, but it’s still going to be good to see #9 out there again. The word is that McCarthy is going to play again and then not suit up until the start of the regular season, so this is our one opportunity to see him before the real bullets start flying.

3) Can he kick it? – After struggling a bit towards the end of last season, kicker Will Reichard has made a full recovery and it will be interesting to see if he’s back in his early-season form from last year. The Vikings haven’t brought in any sort of competition for him on the kicking side of things, so they’re apparently confident that he’s over whatever issues he was dealing with last year. Hopefully that’s the case, because he looked really solid before the injury he dealt with last season. I’m guessing he’ll get at least a few opportunities in this one.

Since this is a preseason game and I’m not sure how many comments there are going to be, we’ll go with an Open Thread for each half. So, keep an eye out during halftime for the new Open Thread and move the conversation over there accordingly.

Win, lose, whatever. . .Minnesota Vikings football is back in our lives again. Here’s hoping that the Vikings are going to get out of this one without any significant injuries and we can start looking forward to next week’s joint practices with New England and preseason game #2.

SKOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL VIKINGS!!!!
