The Denver Broncos defense is going to take a big step forward this season

I’ve been such a big fan of good defense for a long time.

I remember the big hits with Dennis Smith and Steve Atwater as Karl Mecklenburg was seemingly causing havoc from every position on the front 7.

I remember being giddy when we signed Neil Smith and had Trevor Pryce on the same defense, helping the Denver Broncos to their first Super Bowl win.

Who can forget Al Wilson’s dominating presence in the middle of our defenses?

And my all-time favorite defense for the orange and blue: the No Fly Zone (hat tip to the Orange Crush, of course).

I loved the framework of what we saw last season with Vance Joseph’s young defense. They really outpunched the strength of their roster. It honestly showed in our games against more competitive teams.

I’m loving what we’re hearing out of OTAs, though. Pat Surtain, Talanoa Hufanga, Jahdae Barron, and Dre Greenlaw are going to level up this Broncos defense. I don’t think they will be unstoppable, but I just know quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes are not going to be able to just pick on the weak links in the roster to win games. Teams are going to have to work for it.
