Horse Tracks: Fans split on potential second-year breakout candidate
Mile High Report Mile High Report

There is no consensus on who Denver Broncos fans like the most out of the second-year players in 2025.

This survey surprised me. I went into this thinking there were likely two top-tier candidates to breakout for the Denver Broncos in 2025 and two guys that probably have a longer shot. And the two top-tier candidates ended up first and last on this final result.

Fans were pretty evenly split between edge rusher Jonah Elliss and wide receivers Devaughn Vele and Troy Franklin. With running back Audric Estime a distant fourth.

I actually voted for Estime in this survey. I think he has the clearest path for a breakout season. Rookie runner RJ Harvey is more likely to gobble up reps from Jaleel McLaughlin than he will over a short yardage between the tackles type runner like Estime is.

While I was somewhat disappointed with how he finished his rookie season, the Broncos did not really look to replace his role either this offseason. As long as they don’t bring in a veteran for that short yardage work, then I feel Estime has a strong chance to make a name for himself in the NFL next season.

I chose him over Devaughn Vele because the wide receiver room has a lot of bodies, so it’ll come down to he or Troy Franklin for that number three spot. Then again, if Pat Bryant is NFL-ready then they could be fighting for that fourth spot — which means a breakout season isn’t likely happening for either of them.

The darkhorse candidate for me would be Jonah Elliss. He impressed as a rookie and showed some solid production with limited game reps due to the wealth of pass rushers the Broncos had last year. We’ll have to see how he progresses in year two.
