Under no circumstances should Broncos Country be rooting for — or OK with — Chiefs winning the Super Bowl

Good morning, Broncos Country!

Super Bowl Week is upon us, and there is really only one thing Broncos fans should be doing this week...

According to Betway Insider, which followed the very reliable (sarcasm font) social media posts of fans in every state to get some insight into which team a majority of fans were supporting, more fans in Colorado are pulling for the Chiefs than the Eagles.

Based on 332 posts about the Chiefs and 111 about the Eagles, Bettway found that 20% were positive about the Chiefs but only 11% of the Eagles posts were positive.

This is a silly statistic based on circumstantial data from social media (of all unreliable places). Nevertheless, anything positive for the Chiefs is troubling. Everyone in Broncos Country should be “FlyEaglesFly” all week. A threepeat™ for Patrick Mahomes is just not right.

Plus, I can only bear one threepeat for the “opponent” once this week. And since Eli Manning’s NFC Pro Bowl team beat Peyton’s for the third year in a row, that’s the one.

Speaking of the Pro Bowl...

I love the new format. Sure, it’s nothing like the good ol’ days when the selection and the game really meant something. And of course it can seem like a mockery of what the Pro Bowl once was.

But ultimately, the original format was never going to survive as players’ health and wealth require too much protection to be wasted on something that ultimately doesn’t matter.

So to make the Pro Bowl and over-the-top entertainment event is exactly what it should be.

And it seems like the players love it. So good for them.

Plus, Peyton Manning pointed out over the weekend, there can be some benefit to players being around the best of the best for a few days.

In fact, Manning seemed a little disappointed not to have Bo Nix — who was an alternate QB for the AFC — because he had a minor surgical procedure done a few days ago.

And given that Manning had to go with Russell Wilson for one of the QB rotations, the AFC team could have benefitted from some of Nix’s passing accuracy and sack avoidance.

But Manning took the blame for the AFC’s three consecutive years of losing.

ESPN’s Marcus Spears joked with Peyton that he might suffer a Black Monday firing from the AFC.

“I’m 0-3 as a coach against Eli,” Manning said. “I just have to own it.”

Regardless, the Pro Bowl gave us all a chance to scout our successor to Bo Nix...
