Following the season, our confidence in the Chicago Bears was down. Even with the week 18 win in Green Bay and the pending head coach search, many fans assumed the worst. The Bears never do the obvious thing, so we were already on guard, but then the rumors started swirling that the no-brainer head coach hire, Ben Johnson, was thinking about the Las Vegas Raiders.

Despite all signs pointing to the Bears being Johnson’s most logical destination, we allowed the buzz from the Vegas side of things to perturb us.

We now know that Johnson’s agent, Rick Smith, let the rumors swirl while he continued gathering information for his client, but the Raiders were a “no-go.”

And that information led him to Chicago.

The news that the Bears were hiring Ben Johnson reinvigorated our fanbase.

There are still some tempered expectations going on by some fans, and I’m trying to maintain realistic expectations, but it’s hard not to get excited. Especially when Bobby Peters, who has written books about the game plans and playbooks from offensive minds like Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, Todd Monken, and Matt LeFleur, just to name a few, told us, “I’m trying not to be too optimistic, but Ben Johnson is the best play sequencer and has the best feel for play calling that I’ve studied to date.”

I can’t wait to see what Johnson is going to cook up for Caleb Williams and the Bears’ offense.
