Terry McLaurin’s absence from Washington Commanders training camp became official this week, marking the latest development in a growing standoff over his next contract.

The veteran wide receiver did not report for Tuesday’s conditioning test and was subsequently placed on the reserve/did not report list Wednesday.

McLaurin, 29, is entering the final season of a three-year, $68 million extension signed in 2022. His decision not to report will cost him $50,000 per day under the league’s current collective bargaining agreement.

Speaking to reporters last week, McLaurin expressed disappointment over stalled negotiations, noting the sides had not spoken in more than a month.

“Without any progressive discussions, it’s kind of hard to see how I step on the field,” he said, as transcribed by ESPN’s John Keim.

McLaurin also made it clear he wants to stay in Washington but emphasized a desire to be compensated in line with recent market movement.

“With how the market is today, it conveys what guys of my caliber are deserving of,” he said.

Several wideouts—including Garrett Wilson of the New York Jets, DK Metcalf of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tee Higgins of the Cincinnatti Bengals—secured deals worth between $115 million and $132 million this offseason.

Commanders general manager Adam Peters said talks have resumed and remain productive.

McLaurin is coming off the best year of his career, racking up 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns while starting all 17 games.

He’s topped 1,000 yards in five straight seasons despite playing with 11 different starting quarterbacks. With expectations high entering the Jayden Daniels’ second season, Washington’s top playmaker is holding out until further notice.
