Inside The Star
As the Dallas Cowboys get to know their new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker, nothing but good things have been said about this hire. A great start to the offseason for Dallas.
It clearly does not stop here though. The Dallas defensive personnel is still way beyond poor and needs a lot of help to turn things around next season.
The worst part of the defensive was clearly the backend and Parker will have his work cut out for him, but if one guy can make it work, it might be him.
The first step in getting this thing right is doing exactly what Jerry Jones did. Do the process like everyone else, get young names in the building, stop using old head coaches as your DC. That doesn’t work as we have seen.
Now, with getting Parker in the building, this could be great for their backend and maybe bring some guys in through free agency.
Patrick Surtain II: First-team All-Pro; Quinyon Mitchell: First-team All-Pro; Cooper DeJean: First-team All-Pro.
He knows how to coach the secondary. Dallas does not currently have one of those types of guys in the building, but some could be very soon.
Reddy Steward, Caelen Carson and Josh Butler are decent depth pieces, but that cannot be your starting room heading into next year.
DaRon Bland just had his second foot surgery in as many years. They say he will be good to go for the start of camp and everything else, but like Trevon Diggs who they released, his best year(s) might be behind him.
Here are names to keep an eye on. These are free agents. Tariq Woolen, Jamel Dean, Eric Stokes, Greg Newsome, Roger McCreary, Alontae Taylor and Cam Taylor-Britt.
One other guy that I would keep a very close eye on is Nakobe Dean. He is a free agent and would be a huge upgrade for Dallas at the second-worst spot on their defense.

They need another starting linebacker outside Overshown. Murray has been a disaster signing and trading for Wilson from the Bengals was not a good idea either.
All I am saying is when you have a young fresh face running your defense, it is going to get players to want to play for you.
We know how hard it is for players to want to sign with Dallas because of the way Jerry does things and the fact that they have not been to a title game in 30 years, but this is a step in the right direction.
They have a coach running that side of the ball who is very high on team lists, and has coached three cornerbacks to all pro lists. I would want to play for him if I was an up-and-coming guy looking to really hit my prime.
This draft is also key for Dallas. If they get Mansoor Delane at pick number 20, that would be huge. He is the best cornerback in the draft, but will go...
