The Celtics have had a strong start to the 2024-25 NBA season and currently hold an impressive position in the regular season standings. They are in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference with 32 wins and 14 losses. Amidst this success, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie has shown interest in the Celtics. In a recent episode of his podcast, The Ringer, Bill Simmons reported that Lurie is considering purchasing the Boston Celtics.

“Four or five people made the first round. One of the people was the Eagles owner, Jeffrey Lurie, who is apparently from Massachusetts. There’s been a couple of, ‘Hmm, I wonder who these guys are?’ And there was a couple I couldn’t figure out. But that’s one that is in the mix.” Simmons said.

Lurie has owned the Philadelphia Eagles since 1994. On February 4, 2018, the Eagles triumphed over the New England Patriots to capture Super Bowl LII, securing a final score of 41–33. This remarkable victory marked Lurie’s inaugural championship as the team’s owner. Additionally, Simmons has shown his backing for Lurie by stating, “If he bought the Celtics, that’s a decent outcome.”
