Here’s why Bo Nix is feeding targets to Troy Franklin

One of the bigger topics of discussion – and frustration – with Denver Broncos over the last several weeks has been how often it seemed Bo Nix was looking Troy Franklin’s way. The frustration was stemming from Franklin’s issue with drops and with contested catches. He hasn’t been great in either category.

Well, we have a metric that may explain why Nix keeps going back to Franklin. He’s winning his routes better than just about any receiver in the league. With the sixth-highest route win rate over the past month, according to Fantasy Points Data.

On the positive, Franklin redeemed his play heavily in the final quarter of the Broncos win over the Kansas City Chiefs last week. And he is also getting open. If he can resolve the two main issues he struggles with, he could quickly catapult himself into NFL stardom. Another positive is that Bo Nix isn’t just throwing to Franklin for no reason. If he’s the only guy getting open on a given play, why wouldn’t he try to get the ball to him?

Given how it did seem like Franklin was suddenly getting more targets over the last month, it was with good cause. It will be interesting to see how he progresses down the stretch. A little more consistency as a pass catcher and he could definitely catch fire statistically.
