As if 2025 hasn’t gone bad enough for them, the Kansas City Chiefs lost quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a serious-looking knee injury during Sunday’s crushing defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Chargers.
With less than two minutes to go in Sunday’s must-win clash, Patrick Mahomes went down with a knee injury after being tackled by Da’Shawn Hand. Mahomes stayed down for several minutes in visible pain and had to leave the game:

Patrick Mahomes then had to be taken into the locker room and did not return. Gardner Minshew II had to finish the game, throwing a game-sealing interception that ended the Chiefs’ playoff hopes.

Before leaving the game, Mahomes completed just 16 pass attempts for 189 yards, no touchdowns and a pick, per ESPN.
With the loss, Kansas City falls to 6-8 and has officially been eliminated from postseason contention. With their season over, it’s unlikely we’ll see Mahomes play again this year. Even if he avoided a serious injury.
