Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos that it might end like this.

Sean Payton announced that Nix suffered a fractured ankle in overtime and will have season-ending surgery on Tuesday. The announcement came during Payton’s postgame press conference following the Broncos’ thrilling overtime win.

Payton said the injury occurred on the third-to-last play in overtime. It was a QB keeper at around the 36-yard line. The play looked like nothing at the time. But apparently, it was enough to cause the fractured bone in his ankle.

We are now seeing the moment that Bo Nix likely knew his season was over. Footage from the game showed how much pain he was in as he tried to walk on a fractured ankle.

Following the announcement, Sean Payton noted that backup Jarrett Stidham will start against the winner of the Texans-Patriots game next Sunday. “Stiddy’s ready,” Payton said.

Nix, the 12th overall pick out of Oregon in the 2024 NFL draft, should still be able to watch his teammates from the sidelines. It’s just rather unfortunate that his season has to end at such a high moment for him and the team.
