Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs apologized publicly this week to the family of Tina Tintor, the woman he killed while driving drunk in 2021. Ruggs issued the apology while speaking at an event organized by Hope for Prisoners.

Ruggs, who is eligible for parole in August 2026, was out of prison on special release Tuesday night with the non-profit organization which, according to its website, “offers a variety of training programs for its clients to build and strengthen skills necessary for employment readiness, leadership development and success throughout the reintegration process.”

“One, I wish I could turn back the hands of time,” Henry Ruggs said at the event. “I would love for them to meet the real Henry Ruggs and not the one that was escaping from something. I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact my face is always in the news, it’s always in the newspaper. So they have to constantly be reminded of the situation, be reminded of me and see, you know, those memories have to continue to rise because of all of the fame and the notoriety that I have, which I never even, I never asked for. I never liked. And, you know, so I would just tell them that, you know, like I said, I deeply apologize for just being a part of that. And I wish that they could meet the real Henry Ruggs and not one who was just running away from everything.”

“It’s an unfortunate situation that we wish, I’m sure we all wish, we could make some choices again and turn back the hands of time,” Ruggs also said on Tuesday. “Granted, I never saw myself in that type of situation, and it eats me every day I wake up because not only was I responsible for a life being taken, but also lost my best friend in a car accident. So now I’m living with not only the guilt of not driving him, but the guilt of hurting someone else with me behind the wheel. So everyday I’m thinking, ‘What else could I have done? How could I change that situation?’ And it kind of just makes me kind of hyperfocus on things now because I don’t need to escape from anything.”

He added that he is “not even a big user” of alcohol, “but started to indulge in things and trying to balance life and football, but putting football on the forefront but still trying to escape back into life. It kind of, it just didn’t mix.”

Henry Ruggs, who is currently serving a prison sentence of three to 10 years, had been facing up to 46 years in prison following the crash, but pleaded guilty in May 2023 to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter after killing Tina...
