Zach Ertz’s 2025 season is over.

The Washington Commanders confirmed that the veteran tight end has been placed on the injured reserve list. This news comes following his devastating knee injury in Week 14. An MRI confirmed that Ertz suffered a torn ACL in his right knee.

His injury came as a result of a brutal hit from Vikings safety Jay Ward late in the third quarter.

It was quite unfortunate for Ertz. He has been one of the most productive and durable players for Washington this season. Before his injury, he compiled 50 receptions for 504 yards and four touchdowns.

He made career moves by moving into fifth place on the NFL’s all-time receptions list for tight ends. Ertz currently has 825 career catches.

Zach Ertz’s Reaction Gets Caught On Hard Knocks

For the first time ever, the Washington Commanders are part of HBO’s popular “Hard Knocks” docuseries.

Ertz was the featured player for the Commanders. They had no clue how his season would end up going.

The footage from the show captured the moment when a defender tackled him, and he stayed down on the ground. Viewers could hear the tight end saying, “No” multiple times before trainers came out.

Zach Ertz then tells trainers what he feels in his leg and how bad it is as he writhes in pain. His teammates would soon surround him before he got helped to his feet.

As he was placed on a cart, the emotions began to flow. Ertz began to cry with the towel over his head as Marcus Mariota comforted him.

The Commanders’ tight end shared a positive message on social media after his injury. “Broken But Never Beaten,” Ertz wrote on Instagram.

The 35-year-old is in his 13th NFL season. The former Super Bowl champion’s future is up in the air after he signed a one-year contract with the Commanders.
