Maybe the county and the Bengals aren’t as far apart as we thought.
After years of delays and challenges, Hamilton County has finalized the purchase of 17 acres of prime riverfront property near Paycor Stadium, paving the way for a long-awaited transformation, according to a report from WCPO.
The site, previously home to Hilltop Basic Resources’ concrete plant, will be demolished this spring to make way for a green parking area expected to open by summer.
The new space will feature trees, bike lanes, and a more visually appealing environment for Cincinnati Bengals fans and visitors.
“Some green there, some trees, a bike lane going along the side of it. So, something that’s more aesthetically pleasing than a concrete facility,” said Hamilton County Commission President Denise Driehaus.
This project hasn’t come without obstacles. The county spent an additional $2.6 million on zoning, environmental studies, and parking-related costs, with another $860,000 planned for demolition and site preparation. Delays in Hilltop’s relocation also strained the county’s relationship with the Bengals, as both sides traded lease violation claims.
Despite the hurdles, Driehaus remains optimistic about the site’s future.
“In the end, it’s a prime piece of real estate on the riverfront that will belong to the taxpayers,” she said. “This is more than just parking — it’s about creating a space the community can enjoy year-round.”
