Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis, widely considered to be one of the greatest corners in the history of the game, has put Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on blast. Revis also called out the NFL Players’ Association, the players’ union, for its handling of the Micah Parson contract negotiation.

Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys have spent much of the year locked in a contract-extension standoff. Team owner Jerry Jones — also the focus of Netflix’s recent America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys docuseries — has said the two sides reached a “handshake” agreement in March, a characterization Parsons disputes.

On August 1, Parsons publicly requested a trade. Then on August 21, after Jones said in an interview that the “deal is resolved in his mind,” Parsons again scrubbed Cowboys references from his social media, with both his Instagram and Twitter bios now reading “TBD.”

While on a recent media tour to promote the Netflix docuseries, Jones has been reiterating that a deal was on the table following the pairs’ negotiations. The negotiations, however, are effectively null and void as official negotiations must be had with an agent present — which Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, was not.

“As players, after every game we don’t get a choice. We’re put in front of the media and held accountable. Win or lose, missed tackle or game-saving play, it doesn’t matter — we have to answer. That’s part of the job. And that’s why it’s unacceptable to see our union leadership avoid that same responsibility now,” Revis wrote in a statement on social media.

“My question last week about a recent ESPN article remains unanswered, and now Jerry Jones feels comfortable publicly humiliating our union. I don’t know if filing a grievance is necessarily the right battle at this moment, since the fine to him under the CBA amounts to pennies. But doing nothing is not an option,” the Hall of Famer continued.

“At the very least, the NFLPA should be saying it does not condone what Jerry is doing, that all options are on the table, and reminding players that if ownership ever tries to deal with them directly while represented, they should contact their agent and the union immediately,” Revis reasoned. “The bigger issue is respect. Jerry’s actions show that owners have no problem taking advantage of us, and when our union fails to respond, it sends the message that they’ll be able to do the same in the next CBA negotiations if the current leadership remains in place.”

“Every player — past, present, and future — deserves a union they can trust to protect them and support them,” he concluded.
