Everything you need to know to watch the 2025 Hall of Fame Game between the Lions and Chargers.
The Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers will kick off the 2025 NFL preseason on Thursday night with the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
It’s the first time the Lions have been in the Hall of Fame game since 1991, when they took down the Broncos 14-3. Of course, no one really cares who ends up winning this game. It’s all about getting the players ready for the regular season opener in just over a month.
For the Lions, most—if not all—of the starters are expected to rest. The Chargers are expected to start Trey Lance at quarterback. It’s not going to be the best quality game the NFL has to offer. However, it is football. It does mark the end of a nearly six-month drought of NFL action. And that is something absolutely worth celebrating.
So here’s everything you need to know in order to catch Thursday night’s action.
The game is on Thursday, July 31, 2025, and kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
It’s located at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
It’s televised nationally on NBC.
Yes. You can stream it on the Peacock app, or via an NFL+ subscription.
The Lions are expected to rest all of their starters, including their first-round pick Tyleik Williams and second-round pick Tate Ratledge. The Chargers are expected to rest “veteran traditional starters,” and will start Trey Lance (not Justin Herbert) at quarterback.
The NBC broadcast will feature Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, and Melissa Stark. There will be no local Detroit TV broadcast this week.
Don’t worry. If you need your fix of Dan Miller, Lomas Brown, and T.J. Lang, you can catch their coverage live on 97.1 The Ticket. There is also a national radio option on Westwood One, with Scott Graham and James Lofton calling the game.
