Fox Sports analyst and former Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen was living on cloud nine before Tom Brady came around.
Joe Buck and Troy Aikman left Fox Sports for ESPN to cover ‘Monday Night Football’ in 2022, which meant Olsen and Kevin Burkhardt were promoted to the network’s top commentary team.
Fox never planned for Olsen to be its No. 1 analyst so soon, but he was thrust into the role after they lost two big personalities.
In response, they hit Brady with a mega contract and used Olsen, their No. 2 color commentator, as a temporary fix. Greg Olsen turned out to be great at the job while Brady waited two years to make his debut.
Olsen sat with the “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast to discuss the situation.
Speaking to “Bussin With The Boys,” Olsen said he had no hard feelings towards Brady.
“I have zero animosity toward Tom,” he insisted.
“I don’t sit there saying ‘I hope their broadcast stinks’ at all. That is independent from my personal aspirations of, I want to take this to the highest level I can.
“I want to call Super Bowls. I want to get to a top crew. I want to continue to elevate and see how high in the industry that I can get. Those things can both simultaneously exist.
“My ascension individually does not have to come at the expense of him.”
Olsen continued, “It does not have to come in the animosity toward him.
“If he has a long career in this industry, so can I. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. That’s the way I look at it. Tom and I’s relationship, both professionally and personally, is really good. We’ve formed a better personal relationship since he joined Fox.”
“We’ve spent a lot of time on the phone, talking broadcasting, but also talking about raising teenage daughters.
“We have a lot of other things in common.”
Greg Olsen, Fox’s No.2 NFL analyst, continues to excel in his broadcasting career.
He was nominated for an Emmy, his fourth straight time, while Fox’s No.1 NFL analyst, Tom Brady, was not. This is the exact same award he won last year as Fox’s No. 1 broadcaster.
Brady was not among the five nominees after a rocky rookie year in the broadcast booth.
The other nominees were: Troy Aikman (ABC/ESPN), Peyton Manning (ESPN2), Bill Raftery (CBS/TNT/Fox), and John Smoltz (Fox/Fox Sports 1).
The nomination reflects the consensus among NFL fans: Greg Olsen is better at broadcasting than Brady.
