Former UFC fighter and NFL All-Pro Greg Hardy is again in trouble with the law.
The 36-year-old was arrested Wednesday in Texas and charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member, according to online records. TMZ was the first to report the news.
Hardy’s bond was set at $1,000, jail records show. Around noon, Hardy was seen leaving the jail, where he was seen being picked up.
We are now finding out more details about what happened between him and his girlfriend.
An arrest warrant affidavit said Greg Hardy and his girlfriend got into an argument at their home over a woman she believed Hardy was cheating on her with. She confronted him about messages she saw on his phone and questioned whether he was faithful while out of town.
The girlfriend said Hardy pushed her down to the bed after getting in her face and held her down with one of his hands around her neck area. She claims she was still able to breathe and did not lose consciousness.
She said she started to kick Greg Hardy, which led him to grab her feet and push them away.
Hardy would soon leave.
The responding officer noted “scratches and redness” on the girlfriend’s arms “that were consistent with a physical altercation,” the affidavit said.
The girlfriend said Hardy fled their home in a white 2018 GMC Acadia after the physical altercation.
When contacted by police, Hardy said his girlfriend “got close in his face and started poking him in his forehead with her index finger,” according to the affidavit.
“Hardy was adamant nothing else had happened,” the affidavit said.
Greg Hardy’s arrest is just another legal incident in his life. He played one season for the Cowboys before stepping away from football and becoming a mixed-martial arts fighter.
Hardy’s stint with Dallas was marred by the controversy surrounding his signing. Hardy was playing for the Panthers in 2014 when he was placed on the NFL’s exempt list after domestic violence allegations from his ex-girlfriend.
Around that time, he was suspended for four games over the incident, a suspension he served after signing with the Cowboys.
The criminal case against Hardy was ultimately dismissed.
In 2016, Hardy was arrested in Richardson on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.
