Green Bay Packers vs. Cleveland Browns: Blocked kick leads to loss

The Green Bay Packers shot themselves in the foot on Sunday.

The Cleveland Browns didn’t even have their first points of the game until there were only 3:38 left in the fourth quarter. From there, the Browns turned their one drive that went over 37 yards in the game into a field goal, cutting the Packers’ lead to 10-3.

Inexplicably, after protecting the football all game, Packers quarterback Jordan Love threw a quick game interception to Browns safety Grant Delpit on a third and three. The ball was returned for 25 yards, putting Cleveland on the four-yard line. A defensive pass interference cut the distance to a first and goal rep at the one, which running back Quinshon Judkins punched in. With the assistance of an Andre Szmyt PAT, the Browns tied the game in a flash.

Green Bay responded by pushing the ball 35 yards and taking off 2:40 off the clock, despite Cleveland burning two timeouts. Then came a Brandon McManus field goal of 43 yards, which was blocked on the interior by the Browns’ Shelby Harris.

With only 21 seconds left in the game, Cleveland quarterback Joe Flacco was able to move the ball 16 yards to set up a Szmyt 55-yard field goal for the win, which the kicker, who received an MRI on Friday due to a calf injury, nailed.

The Browns never held a lead in this game until the clock hit triple zeros. They only had 221 yards of total offense in the game, 98 of which came in the fourth quarter.

There are no other words for the Packers’ 13-10 loss. It was a total end-of-game collapse by the team. I guess they won’t be going undefeated after all.
