Green Bay Packers Urged to Trade for Former No. 5 Pick

The Green Bay Packers flew under the radar last season, despite having a top-ten offense and defense. Plus, they won 11 games. Yet, an early elimination in the Wild Card Round showed this young group still had room for growth.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has been busy this offseason, trying to upgrade the roster on both sides of the ball. But have they done enough, not only to remain competitive in the NFC North, but to rise above the competition?

The Packers could still have an upgrade or two in mind, possibly even at the pass-rusher position, where they ranked 11th in sacks last season. Recently, ESPN’s Seth Walder had an idea that could change things for the better in Green Bay.

Specifically, Walder believes the Packers could put together a trade package for defensive end/linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux before the season kicks off. Walder’s suggestion is for the Packers to send a 2026 second-round pick to the Giants in exchange for Thibodeaux plus a 2025 fifth-round pick.

The Packers have a youthful group that could be ready for an even bigger season ahead. Adding high-potential players like Thibodeaux into the fold could be exactly what this defense needs for an extra push. Yet, the Giants likely want to see what their team can do with a new quarterback, so prying Thibodeaux away this early may not be an easy move to pull off.
