Desmond Ridder is joining a top NFC team amid uncertainty at the quarterback position ahead of the postseason.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Green Bay Packers have signed Desmond Ridder to their practice squad. Starter Jordan Love is still recovering from a concussion, and second-stringer Malik Willis has a shoulder injury.

As Pelissero notes, there’s a chance that Ridder gets elevated to the 53-man roster for Sunday’s road game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Jordan Love suffered a concussion in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears. He missed Week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens, where Malik Willis had to leave after suffering a shoulder injury.

With the statuses of both quarterbacks up in the air, Desmond Ridder now gets the chance to pursue a ring with the Packers. Matt LaFleur’s group has already clinched the No. 7 seed. They’ll play either the Bears or the Philadelphia Eagles in the opening round of the playoffs.

Green Bay has been decimated by injuries this month. They lost All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons for the season after he suffered a torn ACL in Week 15 against the Denver Broncos. Now, their two QBs are nursing injuries ahead of the playoffs.

Desmond Ridder Lands On His Third Team Of 2025

The Atlanta Falcons drafted Ridder in the third round (74th overall) in 2022. Notably, the draft class wasn’t strong. Only four quarterbacks went in the top 136 picks, and Ridder was the second signal-caller selected after Kenny Pickett.

Per Pro Football Reference, Ridder has an 8-10 record as a starting quarterback with a 63.6 completion percentage for 4,002 yards, 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He made one start for the Las Vegas Raiders last season.

Ridder was briefly on the Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings’ rosters this season. He was obviously never going to start on either club, but Ridder might end up having to suit up in Week 18.
